The Colossus was developed as an intergenerational project which creatively engaged young people from North Clondalkin, and worked with the testimony of mother’s who have lost children to suicide, presenting a narrative on the context and aftermath of bereavement by suicide in the local area.

The Colossus is experienced as a 9 act audio documentary interspersed with augmented reality sculptures on a self guided walking route around North Clondalkin. The walk begins and ends at North Clondalkin Library and is approximately 45 minutes duration.

John Conway

John Conway is one of Ireland’s foremost socially engaged visual artists. His work is characterised by innovative multi-disciplinary projects produced in response to sensitive and challenging community contexts. John is a 3 year studio resident at Temple Bar Gallery and Studios.

Elaine Hoey

Elaine Hoey works mainly creating interactive-based installations, appropriating contemporary digital art practices and aesthetics to explore the politics of digital humanity and our evolving relationship with the screen. She describes her process as ‘experimental,’ and is interested in exploring digitally native and new forms of art. Her work often addresses and critiques themes arising from identity, place, and the biopolitical body.

Shaun Dunne

Shaun Dunne (he/him) is a Dublin-based theatre and film artist who merges testimony and documentary material with new writing. He works extensively across film and theatre. He was the Arts Council’s Next Generation Film Artist for 2020 and is currently developing new feature-length narrative concepts with support from Screen Ireland. In theatre, Shaun has toured extensively across Ireland and is best known for his unique hybrid of documentary material with new writing and inspired fiction.

Commissioned by South Dublin County Council for IN CONTEXT 5 – Connect, South Dublin County Council’s Public art programme under the Per Cent for Art Scheme. With support from North Clondalkin Library, Connecting For Life – a cross sectoral group for who advocate for the prevention of Suicide in the Community, Rowlagh Community Centre, Collinstown Community College, North Clondalkin CrossCare, St Kevin’s Secondary School.
